v0.5 is out!

This is my attempt to have a faster release schedule, even if individual releases are not as substantial. So here comes the v0.5 release, focusing on the level editor.

Let's kick this off with the level editor tutorial. It is a ~20 minute video that should show you the ropes. Pardon the audio quality and the overall sloppiness. Everything that could go wrong while recording did go wrong and I spent two hours just making the recording itself work. And then I had to upload the video twice, because my channel wasn't verified... You can watch the video on YouTube:

Another change is the addition of a new map "Rocket Courtyard". After the previous buckshot-themed map, I wanted to make a projectile oriented one. The map is fairly big, open, and features flaregun, laser crossbow and rocket launcher. Here are some screenshots:

The last major change is the ability to set player spawn rotation. You can do so by editing the properties of the spawn item in the editor (it is shown in the tutorial).

Full changelog:

Gameplay:

  • Look direction after respawning now depends on the rotation of the player spawn item
    • Rotation can be configured in the editor
  • Added a new 4-player map: "Rocket Courtyard"
  • Improved performance on bigger maps when multiple bots are in the game

UX:

  • Unused item properites were hidden in the editor
  • Official map pack was renamed to official_ffa (to indicate these are deathmatch maps)
  • Each map was renamed into format <number of players>_<name of the map> for better clarity
    • Also the maps will now be sorted by the number of players they support

Bugfixes:

  • Fixed a bug where certain shortcuts didn't work in the editor after leaving playtest
  • Fixed a possible crash when killing somebody with a projectile
  • Fixed a crash when flag was placed into the level (by hiding the unused flag item)
  • Clients are no longer performing frame lenghtening if they are the ones lagging behind
